The impact of quantitative easing on UK bank lending: Why banks do not lend to businesses?

2021

Abstract The growing proportion of UK bank lending to the financial sector reached a peak in 2007 just before the onset of the Global Financial Crisis (GFC). This marks a trend in the dwindling amount of bank lending to private sector non-financial corporations (PNFCs), which was exacerbated with the Great Recession. Many central banks aimed to revive bank lending with quantitative easing (QE) and unconventional monetary policy. We propose an agent based computational economics (ACE) model which combines the main factors in the economic environment of QE and Basel regulatory framework to analyse why UK banks do not prioritize lending to non-financial businesses. The lower bond yields caused…

Impact of accounting process characteristics on accounting outsourcing - Comparison of users and non-users of cloud-based accounting information syst…

2019

Article In Press The article of record as published may be found at https://doi.org/10.1016/j.accinf.2019.06.002 Prior literature informs us that a company's decision to outsource a business process depends on process characteristics such as how frequently the process is performed or how specific the assets required by the process are. In this article, we compare the effects of accounting process characteristics on outsourcing decisions across users of traditional and cloud-based accounting information systems (AIS). By focusing on outsourcing of accounting processes among small and medium sized enterprises, we investigate the effect of five business process characteristics (frequency, huma…

Inferring causation from time series in earth system sciences

2019

The heart of the scientific enterprise is a rational effort to understand the causes behind the phenomena we observe. In large-scale complex dynamical systems such as the Earth system, real experiments are rarely feasible. However, a rapidly increasing amount of observational and simulated data opens up the use of novel data-driven causal methods beyond the commonly adopted correlation techniques. Here, we give an overview of causal inference frameworks and identify promising generic application cases common in Earth system sciences and beyond. We discuss challenges and initiate the benchmark platform causeme.net to close the gap between method users and developers.

L'efficacité des privatisations françaises : une vision dynamique à travers la théorie de la gouvernance

2004

International audience; A reading of the process of privatization through the corporate governance theory leads to propose a model taking into account, on the one hand, the time dimension of the process of privatization, on the other hand, the contextual, organizational, governance and strategic variables which influence this process. After replicating some traditional tests, we test this model on a sample of French privatized firms and on a seven years horizon. The positive effect traditionally attributed to privatizations is not confirmed. The importance of the effect is subordinated to some of the suggested variables.; Une lecture du processus de privatisation à travers la théorie de la …

The working partner in family enterprise : European and national issues

2021

The essay focuses on the discipline of the work done by one partner in the company of the other in cross-border couples and on the problems involved in this case. More specifically the focus is on the hermeneutical problems that arise both at the level of European legislation and at the level of Italian national discipline which is applicable according to European conflict criteria, showing the ambiguities and wide areas of shadow left uncovered by the latter.

Structural and Static Prerequisites for the Internationalization of Small and Medium – Sized Enterprises in the Baltic States

2014

Abstract The pace and extent of internationalization of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) is the result of the interaction of various factors and preconditions. This article examines one of these prerequisites - the currently established structure of SMEs in the Baltic States. The relationship between the different components of SMEs or the SMEs structure is the slowly varying parameters of the functioning of the economy. However, as an integral element of the economic system, the SME structure affects its development, including internationalization of business. Based on statistical data, the opportunities for small firms to outsource business activities as a perspective form of int…

Interfirm Network Analysis in Marginal Tourist Destinations: The Mediator Company in Business Relationships

2022

The literature on tourist destinations and the use of empirical approaches evidence the need to adopt this model to increase tourism economies. In model application, the enterprises, and local stakeholders, sometimes represent limitations or opportunities. This article opens the view to tourist destination networks, described as relational structures that can influence and determine the destination-building process. The Network Analysis methodology offers a better understanding of inter-firm relational dynamics when applied in a small context, and in this case, the application was undertaken on the island of Sicily, in Menfi town and its hinterland. Findings show the presence of a company t…
